Remarks by Michael Madsen in his IBET post of 21 Aug 2012 were as follows.
At 7:30 I had a good candidate for an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER at Greene Valley Forest Preserve (DuPage County). The bird was located at the first trail intersection on the trail that goes east toward the river from the Greene Road parking lot. The thing that first caught my attention was the odd call note of this bird (I found it matched well with the last few calls in the group of calls and songs you can find for this species on the Xenocanto website). When I first saw the bird it was partially obscured but even then the overall paleness and slender size were very noticeable for a Myiarchus flycatcher. It did come out on a bare branch briefly where I had a decent look at the bird underneath and from the side. The very pale gray of the head and breast were striking in comparison to our usual Great-crested. The yellow on the lower part of the belly was a very washed-out yellow. The bill was at least as small as a Great-crested (not like would be expected on a Brown-crested Flycatcher). The location where I found this bird is a shrubby area on the edge of the floodplain for the DuPage River.
