Clay-colored Sparrow
Spizella pallida

Montrose Point, Lincoln Park, Chicago
Cook County, IL
29 June 2014

Shortly after entering Lincoln Park on Montrose Avenue on the morning of 29 June 2014, I heard a Clay-colored Sparrow singing. I stopped the car and got out to try to locate the bird. I managed to pinpoint the bird's location to within on 16' tall tree, but because the lighting was still dim, I was not able to see the bird.

I was, however, able to get audio recording of some of the vocalations. The recording below has three instances of the bird singing, the first at about 7 seconds into the recording, the second at about 23 seconds, and the third at about 58 seconds. The audio file is PCM wav format, 44,100 Hz sampling rate (mono) and is 5.7 MB in size.
