Beaver
Castor canadensis

Montrose Point, Lincoln Park, Chicago
Cook County, IL
30 May 2006

This Beaver swam along Montrose Beach from the west and arrived at the fenced shorebird protection area. As it came up by the fence, the gulls and Mallards watched it warily.

It took a while before the Beaver was comfortable enough to come up on land.

Here's a good look at the tail.

The Beaver would harvest sand willows and take them back into the water to eat.

These photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 4500 camera mounted on a Swarovski ATS 80 scope.
